Ju Lin is a happy undergraduate student at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, majoring in Aviation Engineering and minoring in Electronic & Information Engineering. He is highly proficient in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Teochew. His academic journey is marked by a blend of technical expertise, research experience, athletic achievements, and a commitment to social justice.
Research and Professional Experience
In the summer of 2024, Ju was sponsored to conduct research at Ghent University’s Sustainable Thermo-Fluid Energy Systems (STFES) Research Group in Belgium, focusing on systems where heat transfer is the primary mode of energy transfer.
Ju served as a Research Intern at the Forbes-awarded start-up LifeSparrow Solutions Limited. Here, he contributed to the development and enhancement of Search & Rescue products. His role as an exhibitor at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC2024) in Shanghai underscored his active engagement in cutting-edge technology and innovation.
As a co-founder of the first Asian eVTOL English newsletter, Ju has been invited to various conferences and exhibitions, including the 2024 Shenzhen eVTOL Expo. This platform allows him to spotlight Asian technological advancements in vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
Academic and Research Achievements
Ju’s research interests are centered on integrating Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, and Attention Mechanisms with Seamless Positioning and Route Planning. He is currently working on several research papers. Before graduation, he aims to publish around three journal articles and is working tirelessly to achieve this goal.
In his third year, Ju explored how LLMs and NLP can improve sensor fusion through data standardization. This work was presented at the prestigious IPIN 2024 conference, and it is planned to launch the full platform at IEEE/ION 2025, as the abstract has already been accepted and I am the first author. He’s also submitted a journal paper to IEEE IoT-J about using multimodal LLMs for sensor fusion, utilizing their context-awareness capabilities. Another research he’s been involved in integrates Depth Anything and RoMa (from CVPR 2024) into feature-based localization.
As a former resident of the College of Undergraduate Researchers and Innovators Residential College (CURI RC), Ju completed his individual undergraduate research under the supervision of Dr. Li-Ta Hsu and Dr. Guohao Zhang in the second year of his undergraduate study. His research leveraging Machine Learning to mitigate multipath in GNSS positioning.
Ju aspires to become a PhD student after graduation, and tries his best to bridge the gap between academia and industry by applying advanced technologies to solve practical problems.
Athletic Background
Before diving into his academic and research pursuits, Ju was a registered tennis athlete in the sports team of Shantou (China) from February 2014. He is also good at basketball and swimming.
His experience as an athlete has instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, qualities that he carries into his academic and professional life.
Extracurricular Activities and Leadership
Ju is passionate about motorsports and served as the Deputy Director, Powertrain Lead, and Driver of the PolyU E-Formula Racing Team. He represented his university and Hong Kong at the Formula Student competition in Silverstone, UK, in July 2023.
He also attended the Formula Student Electric China in November 2023, where his team won the 3rd prize.
Ju was invited as a panelist at the ETTE Symposium 2025, where he shared his insights on how universities and students should adapt to a rapidly transformative world.
Commitment to Social Justice
Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Ju is deeply committed to social justice. He is passionate about gender equality and educational equity. To raise awareness about gender discrimination, he launched a survey to gather perspectives from different genders, yielding inspiring results.
Ju has also engaged in volunteer work across various locations, including Hong Kong, Hainan (China), and Tanga (Tanzania). His efforts aim to bring hope and support to underprivileged children and those in need.
Personal Interests and Future Aspirations
Beyond his academic and professional endeavors, Ju has participated in diverse activities such as Model UN, debate, and the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. He is on a continuous journey to understand the world and pursue his dreams. Let’s anticipate more remarkable achievements from him in the future!
